The Design

The groov-e fusion headphones are the new headphones from groov-e. With the soon to be released new iPhone which will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, bluetooth headphones are going to explode in popularity. groov-e believes they have the solution with their new fusion headphones, which will of course work with any phone, device or computer that either has bluetooth audio or a 3.5mm headphone jack. The headphones are made from a lightweight plastic, with swivel folding cups. The cups have soft pads too. The headphones allow for basic controls from play/pause, answer/end call, reject call, skip/rewind tracks, last number dialled and volume up/down.

The Sound Quality

At an official retail price of £34.99 you are not going to get audiophile grade of headphones. What you do get is a fun sound, with the emphasis on bass. Consequently the mids and treble are somewhat recessed at times. I am not aware that these headphones include APT-X codec either. Despite the recessed mids and treble, I did enjoy listening to my music with the headphones especially the sub bass effects when present in the tracks and I can imagine the average consumer would enjoy listening to these too.

I have included a video review of the groov-e fusion headphones below.

Conclusion

The groov-e provide a fun sound, with added sub bass when listening to music. For call quality they offer average call quality. They are not audiophile grade headphones, hence why they cost a modest £34.99.

The official retail price is £34.99 although Amazon currently have the headphones on offer at under £30 in various colours.

The new Apple iPhone – How to connect your headphones via the Lightning connector

In about 6 weeks Apple will be announcing the new iPhone which will remove the headphone jack. Instead to listen to music, you will either have to connect via bluetooth or plug your headphones in using the lightning connector.

Above is a potential third party lightning DAC adapter. Personally I think the photo is a dodgy fake. However, it does depict what an adapter might look like. So all you have to do is connect your current wired headphones into the adapter and the other end in the lightning connector. I would imagine we will see sleeker options to the one shown and versions which include mic and button controls as well. In fact, it would make sense to include the DAC within the button control mechanism, thereby hiding the DAC that is needed when using the lightning connector method.

One thing is for sure. If Apple drop the 3.5mm headphone jack off the next iPhone, everyone else will follow and sales of bluetooth headphones will explode.

Choetech 10,400 mAh Portable QC3 Power Bank with Lightning Port – review

Choetech Portable Power bank

Welcome to my review of the Choetech Quick Charge 3 Portable Power Bank complete with iOS lightning port as well.

The Key Features –

– Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Output and backward compatible with Quick Charge 2 and 1.
– Built in LG high-quality battery cells. LG cells much more reliable and higher efficiency than major battery cells in the market to fully use the capacity of 10400mAh.
– Multiple intelligent security protections (over current, over voltage, overload and short circuit protection).
– With a Quick Charge 2 charger you can recharge the power bank at Quick Charge 2 speeds.
– Use either a micro USB or lightning cable to recharge the power bank.

A power bank is a power bank. Not very exciting but functional. I have replaced my old Aukey power bank with this new Choetech power bank as it offers quick charge 3 speeds and the ability to recharge it via a lightning or micro USB cable. A neat feature is the ability to recharge the power bank itself at quick charge 2 speeds. You will need an QC2 charger to do this.

Apple had brilliant Third Quarter Results – But Here’s Small Print

Apple announced its third quarter results last night.

The Key Points –

– The iPad and Services (iTunes/App Store) were the only growth areas. The iPad Pro helped with profit despite a downturn in actual number sold. Services had a boost due to the ever expanding size of the user base. iPhone and Mac numbers both declined. The iPhone had a significant boost from the iPhone SE, without this handset, iPhone sales would have been even lower.

– For Next Quarter’s forecast, more declines are forecast by Apple. Despite this Apple’s shares went up 5% because they smashed the analysts forecasts. Worth remembering the Apple still made $8 billion profit and that is still a lot of money! For Q4 2016, Apple is providing guidance of revenue between $45.4 billion and $47.5 billion, and gross margin between 37.5 percent and 38 percent.

– The Financials – $42.4 billion in third-quarter revenue , that’s a 15 percent year-over-year decline. iPhone shipments in China plummeted by 33%. Japan was Apple’s only growing region, where sales grew 23 percent. But these figures were better than expected.

– Profit down 27%.

– Apple Pay has had 400% growth

– Other Apple news – Apple bought ‘Carpool Karaoke’ Late Late Show segment and will release new episodes weekly via Apple Music.

So what does the future hold for Apple? Well at the moment it is selling loads of hardware, but the world is becoming saturated with iPhones etc and other companies have managed to build premium phones for a lot less money. When Apple introduces the new iPhone and other hardware will it be enough to stop the decline. Personally I don’t think so, but I don’t think it matters too much. I see Apple shifting more and more into the Services business – iTunes, Apple Music and such like. Unless Apple can find the next big thing hardware wise, hardware will continue to shrink very slowly.

Amazon Prime Air – Deliveries by Drones – Comes to the UK

amazon drone

“The online retail giant announced Monday evening that it had reached an agreement with the U.K. government to expand the types of drone tests it is conducting in the region. The new arrangement will allow Amazon to test drone flights that extend beyond the line of sight of the pilot in suburban or rural areas — a necessary ingredient in the aerial delivery of packages that the U.S.’s Federal Aviation Administration currently doesn’t allow.

The agreement also includes the ability for Amazon to test sensors that would prevent drones from unintentionally colliding, and allows Amazon to have a single drone pilot oversee a fleet of drones. Such a setup would be necessary to make large-scale drone delivery economically feasible someday.

The U.K. is a leader in enabling drone innovation, an Amazon exec said in one part of a statement.”

No more unreliable courier deliveries and another step towards removing people/jobs out of the equation.
