Portishead Quay Marina at Night – Stunning Long Exposure Photos taken on the Honor View 20

The Honor View 20 has a great auto mode, but it also has a wealth of other modes built into the camera app. One of which is Night mode. This allows for hand held 5 second exposures without a tripod. However, with a tripod, the phone detects it is securely clamped and allows for an even longer Night mode photo of up to 32 seconds.

The results are stunning.

The above shot is of the boats in the marina. And below is a photo of the restaurants.

Trip to London – Shots of Hyde Park snapped on the Honor View 20

Yesterday, I did a day trip to London to visit family.

I took a number of photos on the Honor View 20 and the results are excellent. The first shot above is of London Paddington station.

The next few shots are taken at Hyde Park near the Italian Gardens. The swan was moving all the time.

Hyde Park is great to visit and also is a neat shortcut to walk from one side of London to another. Why take the Underground, when you can walk.

Some of the buildings and features are fabulous.

The above shot snapped straight into the sun! Notice the heron?

Above shot using 2 x zoom. Detail is good too.

All these shots were in auto mode which does a great job every time.

Honor View 20 – Long Exposure Night Mode – secret second Night Mode discovered with spectacular results

The Honor View 20 has many camera modes in the in built app. Scroll back to see my full camera review to learn about them all with samples.

However, there are 2 night modes. There is a 5 sec long exposure night mode that is hand held without a tripod. This in itself is pretty cool.

However, there is another night mode that kicks in automatically when the phone detects the following. First it realises the phone is in a tripod and also the tripod isn’t moving, that is its completely still. Then it will automatically carry out a longer exposure of up to 30 seconds. This is different from using Pro mode for 30 seconds as its undertaking multi framing and only keeping the best parts of each different shot.

The result. Below is a night mode shot, on auto settings, with the phone on a tripod. The phone picked a 25 second exposure. Where I was standing was pitch black. The photo below is spectacular.

I also experimented with raw images but none of the raw images could compete with the above quality using this longer exposure night mode.

Honor View 20 – Check out these battery stats – Unbelievable!

The Honor View 20 has a 4,000mAh battery, double that of an iPhone. It is also paired with the Kirin 980 processor which is a 7nm design which provides epic power and helps with battery life too.

The screen on time is impressive when you consider the battery still has 56% remaining.

Now for the second stat. The time since the last charge.

That’s right. I’m into my second day now. This phone is looking like a solid 2 day device.

Available from Amazon, currently with an offer for a free Honor Watch Magic worth £179. More info HERE.

Even Samsung Phones suffer from boot loops – My Personal Experience

I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) phone that is my work phone. It is locked down from a security point of view, with 8 digit password that needs entering every time you need to do anything on the phone. Then each of the apps has its own 8 digit password which changes constantly.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) receives regular security updates too. As this is a work phone, it is only used for emails, calls and the odd text. Over the course of ownership, the battery longevity has taken a hit.

So in reality this phone is not stressed heavily. Calls, emails, texts. And charging every other day. Except yesterday I charged the phone to 100% as usual overnight. Went to power on and was left with the Samsung boot logo flashing happily at me. Yes, I know my phone is made by Samsung, but surely Samsung didn’t need to remind me this way!

So what has happened is my Samsung Galaxy A5 is stuck in the boot loop. A quick Google search, and it became apparent this is a very well know problem. Only solution is to wipe the phone whilst connected to a PC using special commands. My actual remedy as recommended by Vodafone, its a known problem, you need a newer phone/replacement.

And that is what is happening. Who knew even Samsung phones suffered from boot loops!

Honor View 20 – 10 Part Review after 1 Month + Camera Showcase + Camera Deep Dive + Audio Review

As a reviewer of smartphones and gadgets, I am privileged to use a significant number of phones across a number of different manufacturers.

The Honor View 20 is a phone that has surpassed all my expectations. Here’s why.

Main Review

First up, full disclosure. Honor provided me with a loan device for the purpose of this review. After the loan period, I enjoyed the phone so much I bought my own View 20 in phantom blue. Some of you will know that I have a Pixel 3 XL. I have now sold this and will be replacing it with my own Honor View 20. That’s how impressed I am with this phone!

So below are the key aspects of the Honor View 20 that have stood out for me.

Battery – In real daily use the battery life whether on wifi or 4g is astonishing. Today, I am likely to end with around 9 hours screen on time from coming off charge at 6.00am this morning. I have watched a movie on it, streamed from Netflix, streamed Tidal MQA Master quality audio into a USB DAC ( iFi Audio xDSD ) , messaged, browsed, played games and so much more. The fact it comes with a super charger plug which gives 50% recharging in 30 mins is really the icing on the cake. Compared to my Pixel 3 XL, the Honor View 20 totally crushes it. The Pixel 3 XL would only manage 4 hours screen on time.

Signal strength – whether on wifi, cellular, GPS or bluetooth, the phone just has remarkable coverage. This is likely due to the 3 bands for wifi and the double GPS signal system. Bluetooth is the latest version 5, with LDAC Hi-Res Codec support. Wifi calling all works a treat.

Screen. It’s a big 6.4 inch IPS screen that nearly goes edge to edge. That’s is what is feel like when watching YouTube or movies that fill the entire screen with just a hole punch for the front camera. Face unlock works instantly as does the rear fingerprint sensor.

Cameras. These are amazing. The rear cameras consist of a 48mp and 3D Time of Flight Sensor. The front camera is 25mp. My dedicated camera review is below. I have been out several times and taken shots with my Pixel 3 XL and Honor View 20. I then did a blind viewing with several people and 75% of the time, the View 20 was the winner. I subsequently have done more tests and ended up preferring the Honor View 20 shots. Add to the fact the diversity of camera modes makes this one blockbuster of a phone for taking pictures. Even the video is good especially at 1080p with all the Video AI modes.

Audio. The Honor View 20 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and its really good. Here’s why and more on the audio aspects of the phone.

Other features – It is great for making actual phone calls. It has an infra red blaster, great for adjusting the volume on my TV.

Price. It costs £499 for the 128gb version and £579 for the 256gb version. Link at end to Amazon where you can currently order and get a free Honor Watch Magic smartwatch. The Honor Watch Magic is worth around £155. When you think that Apple charge £1,149 for their 256gb iPhone XS Max, that’s a huge difference.

Camera Samples

The above shot was taken using the Aperture mode which allows post photo to adjust the focus point and blur from f/0.95 to f/16.

The above traffic trails light painting mode is so easy to use. For this a tripod is needed or a firm surface. This mode is built in to the default camera app.

The above is a hand held night mode. No tripod needed.

In addition to homes, the Huawei 5G CPE Pro can also be used by small and medium-sized enterprises for super-fast broadband access.

Adopting new Wi-Fi 6 technology, the Huawei 5G CPE Pro delivers speeds of up to 4.8 Gbps. It is the first 5G CPE that supports HUAWEI HiLink protocols, bringing smart homes into the 5G era.

As a 5G pioneer, Huawei began research and development in 5G as early as 2009, and is currently the industry’s only vendor that can provide end-to-end 5G systems. Huawei has more than 5,700 engineers dedicated to 5G R&D, including over 500 5G experts. In total, Huawei has established 11 joint innovation centers for 5G solutions worldwide.
