The BBC’s iPlayer Radio app is going global

“The BBC’s iPlayer Radio app is going global.

The BBC’s numerous radio stations have listeners the world over, not just in the UK. In fact, the English-language World Service station alone boasts a global audience of 66 million. Tapping into these broadcasts outside of the UK is as simple as pointing your browser towards the right website, but from today, the BBC has begun rolling out its iPlayer Radio app internationally, making streaming on mobile devices that much easier. ”

Good news for all the BBC global fans so long as advertising doesn’t appear.

Samsung’s world-first UFS memory cards are blazing fast

“Samsung’s world-first UFS memory cards are blazing fast that looks like micro SD cards but aren’t.

Samsung is the first to announce a series of UFS (Universal Flash Storage) removable memory cards, with its 256GB flavor boasting an SSD-like sequential read speed of 530MB/s — that’s about half a gigabyte per second and almost five times faster than the top microSD cards these days. It can also do 170MB/s sequential writing, which is almost two to three times faster. More importantly, Samsung claims that its upcoming 256GB card is rated with a random read rate of 40,000 IOPS, which is 20 times higher than that of a typical microSD card; and likewise, it has a random write rate of 35,000 IOPS, which is a whopping 350 times higher.”

These new cards sound fantastic but won’t be cheap . It would be marvellous if these cards worked with the new Samsung Note 7!

Lizard Squad hacked thousands of cameras to attack websites!

“The hacking collective Lizard Squad isn’t relying solely on masses of compromised PCs to cause some grief online. Security researchers at Arbor Networks have discovered that the outfit compromised several thousand closed-circuit cameras and webcams to create a botnet that it promptly used for denial of service attacks against bank, gaming sites, governments and internet providers. Each device might not be as individually powerful as a PC, but they add up — some attacks flooded sites with as much as 400Gbps of data.

As to the reasons for infiltrating these cameras? Simply put, they’re easy targets.”

With more and more devices being able to connect to the internet, it won’t be long before a hack occurs that closes down a home. Belkin’s WeMo recently updated its firmware for this very reason, discovering a vulnerability that could allow a hacker to replace its firmware with a malicious one and take over your home and more.

Apple will promote enrollment in national organ donor registry via iOS 10 Health app

Apple will promote enrollment in national organ donor registry via iOS 10 Health app.

Starting with the launch of iOS 10 this fall, Apple will encourage users to become organ, eye and tissue donors by including an enrollment form in the iPhone’s native Health app.

Personally this is a great move by Apple. There is a shortage of organ donors so anything to improve this situation is a blessing.

Samsung patents hingeless dual-display smartphone

Samsung patents hingeless dual-display smartphone.

A patent application Samsung filed back with the US Patent & Trademark Office in 2012 showcased a dual-display smartphone with an almost negligible seam between the two displays and the latest application shows that the company has improved the initial idea. The new patent builds upon that idea. It’s not positioned as a device that has a single seamless display when opened and would be great for watching movies, TV shows, etc.

It’s positioned as a professional notebook meant for students and business customers which they can use along with an S Pen.

Other features will include ultrasonic input over and above multi-touch, a project, sensors of UV, grip, biometrics, and more. It may even have a TV module. The patent also notes that this device may also include at least one medical device which could either be a heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature or blood glucose monitor.

Apple is being sued in China again! – details

Apple’s presence in China is on the rise, but so are its legal woes.

The Cupertino, California-based company is now being sued by an arm of China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) over a propaganda video from 1994, reports the AP. A SARFT subsidiary, the Movie Satellite Channel Program Production Centre, claims it has exclusive online rights to the film, and that Apple broadcasting the film has caused “huge economic losses.”

It seems with Apple’s expanding efforts in China, so does the increasing amount of legal woes that comes its way.
