Facebook suspends app pre-installs on Huawei phones – Full Details

Facebook Inc is no longer allowing pre-installation of its apps on Huawei phones, the latest blow for the Chinese tech giant as it struggles to keep its business afloat in the face of a U.S. ban on its purchase of American parts and software.

Customers who already have Huawei phones will still be able to use its apps and receive updates, Facebook told Reuters. But new Huawei phones will no longer be able to have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.

Smartphone vendors often enter business deals to pre-install popular apps such as Facebook. Apps including Twitter and Booking.com also come pre-installed on Huawei phones in many markets. Twitter Inc declined to comment and Booking Holdings did not respond to a request.

If you already have a Huawei phone, you will still be able to download the Facebook app from the Google Play store as well.

80M Huawei phones are now running EMUI 9, 20M more still expected!

Huawei is continuing to drive a positive message regarding its phone business, despite the political scene that is ongoing between Trump and China over a trade agreement.

Huawei have issued another press statement confirming that over 80 million of its phones now all run EMUI 9, which is Huawei’s skin that exists over Android 9.

Huawei originally released it on a handful of devices which included the Mate 10, Huawei P20, Mate RS Porsche Edition (one of my favourite looking phones) and the Nova 3. To boost the number of devices, Huawei is now adding even more devices, showing some love to the older handsets, including the Mate 9 and P10. The Huawei Mate 9 and P10 are expected to receive the EMUI 9 update by the end of June 2019.

YouTube’s new rules on hate speech & harmful misinformation

YouTube has unveiled new policies to curb hate speech, extremist views, and false content on its platform amid mounting criticism over its handling of potentially harmful videos.

In a blog post published Wednesday, the firm said it will be taking further steps to eliminate videos that promote violence and extremism, such as Nazi glorification and white supremacy.

It will also remove hoax videos that attempt to debunk known tragedies, like the Sandy Hook shooting and the Holocaust.

The action is expected to result in the removal of thousands of channels and videos that violate its newly established policies around supremacist content.

Huawei signs deal with Russian telecoms firm to develop 5G

Huawei has signed a deal with Russian telecoms firm MTS to develop 5G technology in Russia.

The companies will develop next-generation 5G networks in Russia over the next year, reports said.

The deal was agreed as China’s President Xi Jinping began a three-day visit to Russia.

It comes as some Western countries, led by the US, have blocked the Chinese firm on concerns it poses a national security risk.
