Lindy Cromo NCX-100 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones – review

image

Welcome to my review of the Lindy Cromo NCX-100 Active Noise Cancelling headphones that come with an integrated amplifier and bass boost option. I have been using/testing these headphones for a couple of months now.

You can see from the first photo, on the left side is the headphone cable with in-line mic which can be removed for safe transit and the battery compartment for 2 x AAA batteries. The opposite side has a slide switch to select from off, active noise cancellation or bass boost.

image

Lindy also supply a hard case for travel/transit which is superb. You also get padding as shown in the photos. A carabiner clip, flight and 6.3mm adapter is also supplied. All this for £100!

image

The specifications are –

– Impedance – 32 ohm passive mode, 100 ohm Noise Cancelling and Bass mode
– Sensitivity – 93db +/-3db/1mW @ 1Khz Passive mode / 103dv +/-3db/1mW @ 1Khz ANC mode and 104db Bass mode
– Frequency Response – 20Hz – 20Hz
– Nominal Total Harmonic Distortion – <0.1% at 1Khz passide mode, <0.5% at 1Khz Active Mode
– Up to 15db of active noise cancellation
– 1.4m audio cable with in-line mic
– Requires 2 x AAA batteries (not supplied)

The features of these headphones start with the 40mm high output drivers with neodymium magnets, an integrated 5 Watt amplifier with an optional 10db bass boost and active noise cancellation using 4 microphones which removes according to Lindy up to 95% of external noise. The headphones also work in passive mode and includes an auto power off.

These headphones have also won several awards – AVForums BestBuy, HiFi Choice Recommended and Loaded Recommended.

After using these for two months now, it is easy to see why these headphones won so many awards. For starters these are super comfy to wear, sound really good across a wide range of genres and are protected in a hard type case whilst in transit. On average I found the batteries would last for around 20 hours music playback. Once the batteries run out, you can continue listening to your music in passive mode. With active noise reduction switched on there is a slight hiss, which is noticeable in a really quiet room. The sound is well balanced with just the right amount of bass. Not enough bass, just switch on the bass boost. In this mode, I really was surprised at just how much bass was possible with certain tracks. Lindy claim that in active noise cancellation mode up to 95% of noise is removed. This is probably about right. I tried listening to music with the washing machine running loudly and I could only hear the machine occasionally. My advice with these headphones is either to find a source of low cost AAA batteries or invest in some rechargeable AAA batteries. Other than having to keep changing the batteries, I cannot find fault with the Lindy Cromo NCX-100 headphones. Highly recommended.

Xiaomi Mi 4i – First Impressions / Benchmark / Camera Shot

image

Apart from the Huawei P8, I also have a Xiaomi Mi 4i. Above and below are my current home screens.

image

I haven’t spent time theming or changing the wallpaper yet, as I just wanted to install my apps.

What do you notice? Google apps and services are already installed. I even got an over the air update. In fact I’m typing this on the Mi 4i as I also listen to Pocketcasts.

image

My full review will follow in a few weeks but initial observations are positive. Very good camera and headphone audio.

Below is a photo I took with the Mi 4i.

Mipow Power Packs – review

image

I mentioned earlier in the week, that I would review the power packs that I use to keep my devices charged. My wife uses an iPhone 5S and I have several phones on the go. Between us we both use Mipow Power pack options.

image

My wife uses the Mipow Power Tube 5200 for her iPhone 5S. The key features of this device are –

– Compact all-in-one design with 5200mA battery
– Built-in Lightning plug to directly charge iPhone 5, iPad (4th generation,) iPad mini, iPad touch – (5th generation,) iPod nano (7th generation)
– Built-in standard USB plug for recharging
– Extra USB socket is available to ensure its compatibility with most other devices via their original charging cable
– iPhone Companion app

There is also an iPhone companion app, screen shot below.
IMG_3564

This is rather neat as it can show you the battery level and has options to sound a warning when it is at a low charge level (parameters options available), temp warnings and when it is out of range of your iPhone. The last option could be handy to ensure you don’t leave home without it!

image

Part of my power needs is handled by the Mipow 5200M Portable Power Cube.

The features of this are –

– Charging cube with vast capacity (5200mA)
– Anodised aluminium alloy casing
– Extra USB output to support charging to most other devices via their original cable
– 2.1A output, support charging for two mobile devices at the same time
– Elastic pouch included to protect the luxury surface from scratches

Both of these Mipow Power packs include built in cables, lightning cable on one and micro USB on the other. Each built in cable also doubles up with USB plug as you can see from the photos so you can recharge the both power packs without hunting for a cable.

Mipow have a wide range of packs in different capacities and designs and were the “iF Design Award Winner in 2013”.

Huawei P8 – Camera Shots

These are the first shots I have snapped using the Huawei P8. The camera has lots of options and over time I will explore these in more depth. In the meantime, enjoy the handful of shots taken around Wistman’s Wood Nature Reserve on Dartmoor. All photos are unedited, and taken at 10mp which gives the widescreen view. If you wanted to use the full 13mp, this provides an aspect ratio of 4:3. In terms of sunlight visibility the P8 adjusted the screen contrast and brightness to make the screen readable in bright sun!

Hopefully you noticed the box presentation. The Huawei P8 is thin, very thin, and to highlight this point, you have to pull the phone out of the box from the side. All the contents were neatly packaged too.

I asked my wife of her views of the P8 and she also agreed with me that it looked beautiful.

If you would like to get an idea of how the camera performs, please look at my other post with some camera shots from the P8. Click here https://gavinsgadgets.com/2015/06/26/huawei-p8-camera-shots/

If you have any questions, please let me know so I can incorporate the answers in my review.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active – review –

After everyone has bought the Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung decide to release a more rugged version with a much bigger battery. Only one major drawback, the storage is restricted to 32gb. If you can live with that, maybe this is the S6 to go for.

Android Central have reviewed this S6 Active and they like it a lot. It’s a good video, so go check it out. A number of other larger websites also prefer the S6 Active over the standard S6 including Pocketnow and Supersaf TV.

LG G4 – Customer Support Update

A few days ago I published a post regarding my LG G4 titled bugs and batteries. This is what I posted –

I thought I would be helpful and contact LG Customer support with all the bugs I have discovered with the G4 and those that also impact the Watch Urbane.

I also asked where I could buy a battery for the G4 along with the charging kit. Let’s not forget that in the USA, LG are offering G4 owners a free battery and charging kit and a 32gb micro sd card. You can also buy extra backs in different colours.

Around 3 weeks has passed, and LG customer support cannot progress any of my bugs as they are not in possession of a G4, to replicate and confirm problems, following which something might occur. I’m speechless over this.

Then we get to the bugs. One of which is repairable if I send my phone back in for repair. Very funny not. It’s a brand new phone, so my solution is that they can take back my phone and give me a brand new working phone. Except, this won’t fix this issue, a software update more than likely will.

The removable battery is flouted as a selling point of the G4 versus other phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 that have moved to an internal battery that is non user removable. LG customer support informed me that LG Korea decided not to sell or send batteries to the UK. If you could buy and then use a third party battery you invalidate your warranty!

So I’ve elevated the above to within LG and wait their response. On the plus side, LG customer support is reachable with ease by telephone and they do call you back.

UPDATED – Well, I didn’t expect a response at 6pm on a Friday, but the Head of LG Mobile UK has personally responded and has started to address all my points. The email was about 3/4 A4 in length. As my website signature was not used the content is private currently. Once, I have less sensitive data to share, I will update this post again. I will say just one thing, customer support now have a G4.

So what has happened since. Actually quite a lot. The Head of LG Mobile UK has been actively working to provide a solution to all of the above. I have received since last Friday another 3 emails from the Head of LG Mobile UK. Just for clarity I did not use my website signature.

So this is the solution from LG –

– LG sent a brand new LG G4. I have to return my current G4 at my convenience.
– LG also delivered a spare battery for the LG G4. LG mentioned that batteries should be available soon in the UK. The main issue is that the retailers did not want to buy any, stating there was no demand.
– As a measure of goodwill, LG also sent a pair of LG Tone Infinim Bluetooth Headset headphones designed by Harmon Kardon.
– Apps – Whilst some of the apps eg LG Health needs updating to work properly with the LG Watch Urbane, LG are working on the update. In the meantime, I was asked to use Google Fit app.
– The reason the LG Customer support team didn’t have access to a G4 was due to the fact they had just moved offices. LG said that wasn’t really an excuse, but the real reason, however, the support team do now have a G4 available to help customers with any questions etc..

From my point of view, I think LG have been honest, helpful and quick to address my concerns. And very fair! The support team are accessible by telephone and that is a bonus in today’s world.
