ALERT – FREE 50gb Dropbox Bonus Space on Samsung Galaxy S5 – YOU’LL BE LUCKY

So, you have just bought a new Samsung Galaxy S5, and are looking forward to getting 50gb free bonus storage space.

Note 1 – The Dropbox app needs to be preinstalled on your phone.

Note 2 – The account that signs in first, locks the deal and dropbox ID to that phone.

THE HUGE CON – If you already had an unexpired Samsung Dropbox bonus deal, you won’t get anymore space. The same would apply with a HTC phone as well.

What is annoying is I only have a month left with my previous Samsung 48gb bonus space but now I have nothing as I cannot sign in with a new email, as the device ID is already registered with Dropbox. And I won’t get the free 50gb bonus space thereafter.

So in my minds, this is a total CON. No where does it warn you when you go to setup Dropbox.

I have asked Samsung and Dropbox for comment and will update this article as and when a reply is received.

Update – since publishing this article I have been approached by a large number of people who have also suffered the same fate and not been able to obtain their free advertised storage for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

If you have been affected, please get in contact.

  1. “I only have a month left with my previous Samsung 48gb bonus space but now I have nothing”

Would have happened anyway. Only NEW Dropbox users are eligible. After you get it the first time and it expires, you have to upgrade to Pro. You are not able to receive the promotional offer a second time, unless you create a NEW Dropbox user profile and then you’d have to move your stuff over, redo shares etc.

  2. I have had the exact same issue, and also feel CONNED. No where in the advert for the device and free dropbox space does it say anywhere that terms and conditions apply, let alone the fact that you MUST make a new account to redeem the space. I wasn’t worried about getting double the space, but I have had a warning now that my dropbox promotional space will expire soon, far earlier than the 2 year promotion that I THOUGHT was activited on my S5.

Upon sending messages to dropbox customer support, only THEN was I informed that I wasn’t eligable for the promotion…a year after I’d bought the device! It turns out too that by signing into your normal account on dropbox, they TAKE AWAY your eligability for the promotion, so you’ll NEVER have it!

  3. I was conned in just the same way. Bought an S3 with 50gb dropbox for two years. Then when the 50gb expired i bought another S3 (4G version), signed in with the same dropbox account and… nothing. Contacted dropbox customer support, who basically said too bad, screw you. When i bought an S5 i made a new gmail address and a new dropbox account with it just to be sure. I transferred all my files my sharing them from my old dropbox account.
