Using Black and White Photography with the Samsung Note 4

Having used the Samsung Galaxy S5, K Zoom, Note 3 and now the Note 4, I have found that I am fairly familiar with how each shooting mode works and how to use each mode to get the desired effect.

Dead or Alive Stripped Tree with Dartmoor in the distance #b&w #samsungnote4

Note – click on photo if you want to go to my Flickr account to see original full size shot.

I have found with the Note 4 that in order to get the best “after edited” shot, it is best not to have taken the shot with HDR on. It is better to work with a photo that is slightly darker in places. Using various filters with a non HDR shot seems to bring out far more dramatic photos.

This also applies when using black and white as your way of expressing drama or a mood in a photo. The above was simply a random shot of a photo taken of a tree with a backdrop of Dartmoor. I then used Camera360 and choose a Black and White Strong filter.

Jony Ive – Ive Called it – Swiss Watch Makers are over

Via – http://www.cultofmac.com/309512/jony-ive-called-swiss-made-watches-trouble/

“Yesterday, Biver told Bloomberg that TAG Heuer is developing its own smartwatch to counter the Apple Watch. Unnamed Silicon Valley tech companies will provide the tech while TAG Heuer will design the look.
If the name TAG Heuer sounds familiar, it’s because Apple poached one of its executives before the Apple Watch was announced.

TAG’s upcoming smartwatch will also abandon the revered “Swiss Made” label, which requires at least 50 percent of the watch’s components to be made in Switzerland. The watch will have GPS and sensors for health monitoring, although TAG hasn’t revealed any specifics yet.Biver said the Apple Watch mainly threatens watches under the $2,000 price point. Apple hasn’t revealed pricing beyond the base model’s $349, but it’s looking like Jony Ive was right when he said Swiss watchmakers are f**ked.”

It is a very bullish statement, but there is no way high end watches are dead. Maybe the £500 to £2,500 range will suffer, but there will also be room for class.

Apple aiming for 19 hours of Apple Watch battery life under normal conditions, 2.5 hours ‘heavy’ use

“Apple is aiming for 19 hours of Apple Watch battery life under normal conditions, 2.5 hours ‘heavy’ use

Apple is targeting 19 hours of battery life under mixed usage conditions for its upcoming Apple Watch wearable, consistent with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s estimate that users will want to charge the device daily. ”

Whether the above stats are true or not it does ask the question is any watch going to survive with the general population that needs charging daily and if filled with apps possibly even more than once a day. Perhaps it’s time to decide that less is more so that we can get longer battery life ?

O2 is being sold to Three UK for £10 billion

“Via Reuters- Telefonica SA is set to agree to a cash deal of 10 billion pounds ($15 billion) to sell 02, its British mobile company, to Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing’s Hutchison Whampoa Ltd , the Financial Times reported on Thursday.”

As good as confirmed unless the deal is thwarted by the regulators. Not good for competition on the high street , but maybe better network coverage.
