HTC has removed the HDR microphone specification from the HTC One brochure

The HTC One specification sheet as had the HDR microphone removed.

HTC has issued a statement saying that is is entitled to use its remaining supplies of STM’s HDR Microphones until they run out. At that point, it’ll use a different (“improved”) microphone design in future production runs.

“In light of several misleading stories regarding a recent injunction obtained by Nokia against STM (a supplier of components to HTC in The Netherlands) HTC looks to clarify the following points:

• Nokia has NOT obtained an injunction in The Netherlands, or anywhere else, against the HTC One.

• The Dutch proceedings were brought by Nokia solely against STM. HTC was not sued by Nokia in the Netherlands.

• The Dutch injunction prohibits STM from selling certain microphones to any company other than Nokia for a limited period.

• The judgment against STM states that HTC can continue to use microphones already purchased from STM in its products, because they were purchased in good-faith. Nokia’s attempt to obtain a recall of microphones already sold to HTC failed.

• HTC will transition to improved microphone designs once its inventory of STM microphones is exhausted.”

HTC made the point that the microphone will be improved. Lets hope that this is the case.

Even HTC like a photo I took on my HTC One

I received a message from HTC that they had pinned a photo, which had been taken on the HTC One, on to their Pinterest board.

I’ve got to say it was one of those lucky moments, but it does seem the HTC One has the knack of capturing those moments. Below is the photo liked by HTC.

And below are 2 photos that the HTC One just caught the moment just right.

HTC One – Zoe Tips

First, open the camera app, turn Zoe on and capture your photo.

With a Zoe, you can find the best image. Each Zoe contains about 20 individual images which you can review to find the best photo. It’s an easy way to make sure you capture the best image possible. Simply stop the Zoe playback by tapping the screen and then use the slider bar at the bottom to review each individual frame. Once you find the image you want to keep, select “Save frame’ from the tools menu.

If you’re in an active setting, such as jet skiing, swimming or running, capture the moment in Zoe mode again. You’ll have a 3 second clip and 20 still photos. Create a sequence shot by going to Edit > Retouch > Sequence Shot and selecting the frames you want to use to create an amazing composite in a single photo. Best filming with the motion moving either left to right or right to left in front of you.

In Zoe mode, use the three second Zoe to start with the wide landscape shot of a field full of flowers ending on the tight shot of that one flower right in front of you. This will give someone viewing your Zoe the full experience without missing a single detail. Quite effective this method.

Filming using Zoe mode, use a little movement. Just a small amount can significantly enhance the shot while showing the environment you or your subjects are in. Begin the motion before hitting the shutter to start the Zoe capture, then when you share the highlight video there’s seamless transition from one clip to the next.

And finally use a tripod if you can.

HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S4 – ram

The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 are two of the latest and greatest phones to hit the market. They both come with 2gb ram to ensure a smooth operation.

However, there is a startling difference between the memory requirements of these devices. On the HTC One, there is no app or setting that is installed to show you how much ram is left to use after the phone has used what it needs. On the S4 there is a task manager that does show the free ram available. And it’s not surprising why the HTC One omits this information. Read on.

So the HTC One has 1.5gb free from the provided 2gb.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has 0.8gb or 800mb free from the provided 2gb.

So guess which phone is having users comment on phone lag, freezes, camera lag and stutters.

Yep, the Samsung Galaxy S4. It is simply overloaded with too many features, and touchwiz is a huge memory hog. The HTC One has nearly double the free ram available providing a fast, lag and stutter free experience, and hence can safely omit memory ram usage.

HTC One – jelly bean update 4.2.2 details

Earlier this week, HTC started releasing a major update for the HTC One with a file size of 230MB. This was firmware 1.29.401.12 . Apart from bug fixes, this update improved the camera and overall performance.

However the HTC has confirmed the HTC One will get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. This firmware number jumps directly from 1.29.x up to 2.x.

Improvements for this firmware will include a software menu button flashing feed for theTV app, a workaround for apps that still require the Menu button. Currently, the HTC one receives at the bottom of an additional bar with a menu button. In early versions of the software you could adjust the back button as on the One that calls this through a long press on the menu. HTC had to remove this feature but unfortunately. Now this problem will be solved.

In addition, HTC Blinkfeed will have new content and additional enhancements to the TV app.
There will also be a New Quick Settings menu.

All this is good news especially after all the latest review has concluded the HTC One is superior to the Samsung Galaxy S4.

HTC One – Camera Shot of the Week

If there is one reason to buy the HTC One, it is for the camera. It is designed to make sure you never miss a moment. I was taking a photo of Kingsbridge Quay in Devon, when I saw 2 seagulls approaching. To switch from taking a photo of the Quay, to taking 20 burst photos of these seagulls I did nothing other than hold the shutter button down. All 20 photos of the seagulls were in focus capturing them mid flight. None of the photos below have been altered or edited. First up the Quay.

Now a few of the seagulls in flight.

HTC One – cases review

Yesterday I received a rubberised case for the HTC One, as mentioned in my article yesterday.

The design and colour was superb, but after a while felt uncomfortable to hold as the sides were not as smooth as I first thought. Also, there is no cut out for the sim tray.

Well today’s post brought 4 more cases. First was the hard suede finish case from eBay . I got this in 3 colours. Black with the silver is stunning. Also has cutout for sim tray and is comfy to hold. See photos.

And in green.

And in grey.

I also got another similar grey case from eBay but branded. This came in fancy packaging. The screen protector was superb. Its actually fitted in the above photo of the black case.Photo below of MF case.

And finally from Belkin, their clear matt silicone case. Comfy to hold, overlaps front screen slightly for better protection, but doesn’t look as sexy.

So as this is the HTC One here is a video highlight of the cases.

Nokia awarded injunction against the HTC One

Reuters is reporting that Nokia has received an injunction against HTC’s HTC One phone.

Nokia said it won a court injunction that would prevent rival HTC Corp from using microphone components made by STMicroelectronics NV in HTC One phones.

The Finnish phone maker said in a statement announcing the decision by the Amsterdam District Court that the microphone components were invented by Nokia and manufactured exclusively for Nokia phones.

Another battle transpires. Lets see what HTC has to say about this.
