Amazon looking to expand Prime with music streaming

The Wall Street Journal confirmed that Amazon is “hoping to offer an on-demand music-streaming service” to Prime customers—but it also cites people familiar with the matter as claiming that it “may limit how much a person can listen to any given song.”

Amazon has told record companies it would pay them out of a fixed pool of money, according to people familiar with the matter, instead of compensating them based on how often users listen to their songs. Music companies are seeking to withhold their newest music from the service, a person familiar with the matter said, though details were unclear as the negotiations are in process. The retailer has told some music companies that it plans to impose time limits on how long a user can listen to a given song or album on the service. The average duration of that limit couldn’t be learned.

I wonder how Amazon will succeed in this area and how it will sell the Prime offering at the higher cost when people won’t want all of their services and cost. The other concern is that whilst Prime may appear good value now there is always the chance they could raise their prices even further.

Apple – where art thou new products?

Something is strange in 2014. By now Apple would have held a keynote speech,  normally in the first week of March.

But this year there is nothing.

One could argue Apple doesn’t need to do anything. The iPhone 5S is selling like hotcakes,  the iPad Air is the best tablet on offer and you can buy the new Mac Pro if your wallet allows.

On the other hand,  the competition is hotting up with the new phone releases. Google, Samsung,  Pebble and others are getting heavily into wearables. Apple has yet to reveal its hand.

So 2014 could be the year Apple either stuns the world with a gorgeous new iPhone,  wearable tech and new ipods.
Or it fails to deliver. Personally I’m going with the first option but I think we will only start to see the new devices from summer onwards.

Samsung’s response to Android Wear

Techradar reported that Samsung issued a news release which appeared just after the Google Android Wear announcement. Coincidence ?

Samsung have stated that they have a third Gear smartwatch in the pipeline which will actually be able to make phone calls as it has its own sim.

So by revealing this new 3rd version why would anyone buy the Gear 2 so soon? I also wonder how developers will react now to supporting the Tizen operating system when android wear is likely to be far more popular.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – lifetime 3 monthly update

Ok, I know it’s not a lifetime, but 3 months worth of ownership of a single phone by my standards is a lifetime.

The real test is whether I can survive the next few months or even weeks of new phone launches. Now some of you may say I tweeted I had picked up a 5C and a LG G2. Well I did, but they were not for me but 2 friends respectively. I still had a little peek though. Loved the G2. The 5C was great too but the screen felt cramped.

Going back to the Note 3 it just keeps on impressing me the more I use it. Also the spec sheet is still ahead of many phones. It possesses stunning audio quality via headphones, a huge battery and screen and is so versatile that when I read the new specs of soon to be released phones I keep thinking I’m not buying that as it won’t change much. Even the camera on the Note 3 is way above my expectations.

The Note 3 is a joy to use and seems to excel in most areas. This is going to be a very difficult phone to part company with.

Maybe, next month I will be eating my own words. So who reckons I will have a new phone in April?
