Apple’s Hardware Plans for the new and old iPhones to iPads

This last quarter of the year is going to see some spectacular new phones being launched from just about every company. And that includes Apple. In fact, as to what Apple has planned certainly caused a decent discussion with my twitter buddies the other day.

And as to how spectacular remains to be seen, but Apple is sure to makes some bold colourful moves. I believe Apple will do the following.

The iPhone 5 will be upgraded to the iPhone 5S with improved camera, processor and not too much more. The real secret will be iOS 7, and the additional software exclusives that will bring to the 5S. In reality, there is nothing wrong with the current iPhone 5. It is a very powerful device and easy to hold due to its size and light weight. In past times, the new iPhone allows the older models to be sold at a lower price.

But the iPhone 4S features the old connector and not the new lightning version. It is also made of glass and is probably still fairly expensive to manufacture. So one thing is for sure, the 4S will be killed off this year. It will be replaced by new fashionable range of lower cost iPhones which will be available in many colours. It will be made of polycarbonate and cost less to produce. It will more than likely features the guts of the current iPhone 5 but as mentioned in a cheaper body.

The iPads. The new full size iPad will be lighter, and overall be smaller due to a thinner profile and bezel, very similar to the current iPad Mini. The iPad Mini will be update with a better screen, maybe retina.

The iPod Touch will remain as this will be at a cheaper price point the any of the new iPhones. With regards to the iPods these will remain pretty much the same, just with minor improvements.

Apple Acquires Matcha

Earlier this summer, video-discovery outfit Matcha disappeared without explanation, leaving behind just a “this service is no longer available” message as a monument to its effort to create a social TV and movie recommendation engine. A spokesman for Apple has now confirmed the deal to AllThingsD.

Matcha is the latest in a string of recent small acquisitions by Apple, which include crowdsourced location-data company Locationary and online transit-navigation app maker HopStop.

Save the Date – Apple confirms date for new iPhone event announcement – plus latest rumour on next iPhone

10th September 2013, is the day Apple holds its first new product launch in nearly a year.

The event on the 10th will centre around the new iPhone. Whether it will include any more new devices is unknown at present.

The latest rumour surrounding the replacement for the iPhone 5 is that the home button will double up as a fingerprint sensor. The iPhone 5S will include a better camera module, improved processor and a few other small software enhancements, but fundamentally look similar to the iPhone 5.

Then there is the budget iPhone, rumoured to be available in multiple colours.

So for all the Apple fans out there, the wait is nearly over.

Apple’s request to suspend eBook ruling denied

A judge on Friday refused a request by Apple to temporarily suspend her ruling that it violated antitrust laws by conspiring with publishers to raise electronic book prices in 2010.

Judge Denise Cote, ruling from the bench in Manhattan federal court, declined to withdraw the effect of last month’s ruling while Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc. appeals.

The future doesn’t look so bright for the iBookstores’ agency model, as it looks like the agreements with publishers will be ending very soon if things don’t turn around for Apple.

The Hot Watch – with private patented calling

The Hot Watch is a kickstarter campaign for a smart watch that does significantly more than any other previous watches.

Meanwhile, the current crop of smart watches still requires your phone for basic functions like texting or making and receiving a call. Enter HOT Watch™ with Patent Pending Hands on Talk Technology that redefines what you can do with a watch, enabling you to send and receive messages while allowing you to make private calls without touching your phone.

HOT Watch™ comes bundled with Call Features (Private call, speakerphone, contact download and caller ID), Messaging Features (text, e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Text Reply), Smart Phone Apps (weather, stocks, calendar, news, music control, phone finder), Watch Apps (Pedometer, note capture, fall detection, calculator), Time Features (alarm, timer, stopwatch, multi city time) and SDK for custom apps.

For all the above features to work, your smart phone just needs to be in close proximity of your HOT Watch™. The Typical Bluetooth connection range is 20-30 feet. You will still require your phone for more advanced functions like, GPS, internet browsing, camera or other smart features not listed above as supported by HOT Watch™.

HOT Watch™ is the first watch to support all the call features and limited Messaging features with any Bluetooth enabled phones. More advanced features are supported with iOS and Android devices.

Makes the Pebble seem so basic in comparison.

iOS 7 Beta 4 update – the changes

Apple released the fourth beta of iOS 7, which has a number of improvements, changes, and bug fixes.

Lockscreen – Slide to Unlock has been updated with a changing highlight colour and an arrow that draw attention to the area on the lockscreen.

The arrow for the Notification Centre is now a line shape.

Mail – Swiping to delete inbox messages from the Mail app faster.

Notification Centre – The different sections of the Notification Centre can now be switched between by swiping left and right.

AirPlay –  new AirPlay icons.

Siri – Siri’s help menu now includes some questions and answers.

Camera – includes a relocated HDR button.

Reminders app – now offers Search functionality.

Safari and Mail icons appear to have tweaked gradient redesigns.

Folders – animation for folders located in the dock looks like it works properly.

Phone –  Call button takes up less of the phone’s screen and the Answer/Decline buttons have also been updated.

Messages app now uses the first name and last initial of a contact in a chat conversation rather than the full name.

Search – includes cancel option

Safari – Buttons for Bookmarks, Shared Links, and Reading List have been redone with icons rather than labels.

Fingerprint scanner – code in the beta suggests the home button might indeed have a finger print scanner.

Google+ Local to be retired August 7

Google+ Local is to be retired August 7 2013.

Now that the updated Google Maps iOS application has Google+ Local features included,  Google has made the decision to axe the Google+ Local application. The announcement was made through an email:

Google+ Local app for iOS will be retired on August 7th.

Hello,
We’re emailing to announce that the Google+ Local app for iOS will be retired on August 7th, 2013.
The good news is that all features in the Google+ Local app are now available in Google Maps for Mobile on iOS devices:
• Search by categories of places, like “restaurants” or “coffee shops”
• Read place information, including written reviews, average price, address and Street View (where available)
• See what people in your Google+ circles have to say about their favorite places around the world
• Rate and review places you’ve been to
• Share places, locations and businesses you find
Learn more about Google Maps for iOS.
This means that after August 7th, you’ll no longer be able to access the Google+ Local app through your iOS device. Any reviews and ratings that you created will be available on your Google+ profile and in the Google Maps iOS app.
Thank you for using Google+ Local for iOS.
Sincerely,
The Google Maps Team

At least Google kept the features instead of removing them suddenly.
