Further Thoughts on the Sony QX10 and QX100 Hub Lens Cameras

I have had the QX10 and QX100 now for several weeks and my views on them have slightly changed. They are both excellent however I now carry the QX10 with me more than the QX100.

I carry the QX10 permanently with me as it is considerably lighter and smaller to pocket. It also has 10x optical zoom so for most situations it is a better option to carry.

If I know I will be travelling to somewhere specifically where I intend to take photos or where there might be an opportunity for good shots then I will take the QX100. The QX100 takes incredible quality photos.

But if I had to choose just one, it would be the QX10. If I wanted QX100 quality I would use a DSLR camera instead.

However, my wife and I have been out several times with our iPhone 5S’s using the QX10 and QX100 and had a great time using them. More fun actually than most cameras.

Sony QX10 and QX100 camera shootout plus update from Sony on software

At the weekend my wife and I took our iPhone 5S’s and the QX10 and QX100 with a tripod and tried to see who could take the better photos. We spend several hours taking photos and both lenses took excellent photos.

The 10x zoom on the QX10 did manage some amazing shots from far away and overall is a very versatile add on. But the QX100 is in a class of its own; the quality is so obviously superior.

Same mast, but zoomed in using the Sony QX10 below.

To recap on my review and articles on the QX10 look here https://gavinsgadgets.wordpress.com/?s=QX10&submit=Search

To compare photos from the QX10 and QX100 go to my Flickr – currently as of today’s date, the night shot is from the QX100, then the next 8 are from the QX10 and the following 8 on my photostream from the QX100. Click here http://www.flickr.com/photos/gavinfabl100/

In case you read this a while later the Qx10 photos start from Vixen Tor Dartmoor v2 down to Brentor Church, then next 8 are QX100. Then follow pattern as per below for rest.

As a comparison after the QX100 shots on my photo stream, the next 2 are from the iPhone 5S. The following 2 of Exeter Cathedral again from the QX10, and the next 2 from the iPhone 5S.

The QX100 has incredible low light capabilities. This shot below was taken at night.

Sony QX10 and QX100 attachable lenses for android and iOS

So there I was thinking about the Samsung Note 3, Nokia Lumia 1020 or Sony Xperia Z1 as my next phone and then Sony launches the QX10 and QX100 lenses.

Works with any android or iOS  smartphone. Simply mount the smart lens to your phone or hold in your hand or attach to a tripod.

One touch connection with NFC. High-performance 1.0-type Exmor™ CMOS sensor with 20.2 effective megapixels, -F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens has a wide aperture to allow more light to enter the camera, for easy, creative effects.

Same idea as its big brother but a G lens with 10x optical zoom. Optical SteadyShot reduces the effect of shaky hands for crisp, blur-free photos and videos. An 18MP Exmor R™ CMOS sensor ensures crisp, detailed results in every frame.

No noise, just smooth images – back-illumination technology inside the sensor collects light more efficiently to ensure minimal levels of noise. Capture your own HD movies – thanks to the CMOS sensor, the smart lens will shoot high-quality HD movies (30p) with low noise, even in the dark. Shoot fast, shoot clear – the high-speed BIONZ imaging processor powers rapid shooting for quick and clear results.

So with either one of these lenses I could attach these to my Nexus 4 and have a super HQ camera.

Also the lens has its own battery and memory card slot, so not drawing on my phones battery. The lenses can be used without the phone to.

So is this a great idea or a nutty one? Well it is in the top 3 at Amazon!
