Apple – New Rumoured Devices

The internet is awash with speculation about new products and hardware from Apple. Will Apple use WWDC in June 2014 to announce any new hardware, or will they wait to hold a special event in September?

The new iPhone is rumoured to now be in production at a screen size of 4.7 inches, along with the iWatch. An updated Apple TV is possible and what about the iPod range? Will this receive any more love….

Either way, Apple’s next slew of hardware releases will really determine whether Apple have what it takes to compete or lead the market.

Of course, all the rumours could be wrong, and the next iPhone will only still be a 4 inch screen!

FaceBook’s new Messenger Strategy – Good or Not?

Facebook is taking its standalone app strategy to a new level today. It’s starting to notify users they’ll no longer have the option to send and receive messages in Facebook for iOS and Android, and will instead have to download Facebook Messenger to chat on mobile.

So what’s your view on this?

Personally, I don’t use FaceBook so it makes no difference.

Apple’s Internal Slides revealed

apple 1

Why would Apple produce a larger screened iPhone? Because Apple’s extensive research shows there is not much growth available for a 4 inch phone costing more than $300.

Despite the impact this will have on developers with a new screen size there is no choice. This year they can phase out the 3.5 inch screened 4S and have a larger screen and the 5S 4 inch screen model, thereby still keeping to just 2 different screen sizes.

More interesting is the slide below showing why the ended up in this position.

Basically the competition has levelled the playing field and Apple needs to respond. Lets see what they bring out in September or sooner.

Twitterific 5.7 goes freemium – will all apps go this way?

The Iconfactory has changed their business model for Twitterrific making it a freemium app rather than a paid app at £1.99.

This means anyone can download the app for free as an ad-supported application. There is also a selection of unlockable features available as in-app purchases.

Features such as the today view, translation and removal of ads are now offered as paid upgrades. Most notably, enabling push notifications now requires a paid upgrade.

I just wonder if this is the future of all apps. What do you think?

Typo Keyboard hits stumbling block

Via Reuters.

“A U.S. district court judge on Friday granted BlackBerry a preliminary injunction against the Typo iPhone keyboard case for infringing on certain patents, effectively banning sales of the Ryan Seacrest-backed device.

In a ruling handed down by U.S. District Judge William Orrick, BlackBerry was able to establish a “likelihood” of proving that the Typo Bluetooth keyboard infringes on its patents, reports Reuters.

That knowledge, combined with Typo’s inability to challenge BlackBerry’s patents, is enough to slap the company with a preliminary injunction banning sales.

“BlackBerry is pleased that its motion for a preliminary injunction against Typo Products LLC was granted,” BlackBerry said in a statement. “This ruling will help prevent further injury to BlackBerry from Typo’s blatant theft of our patented keyboard technology.”

I must admit when I first saw this accessory I knew BlackBerry would be left with no choice but to sue the company.

New details emerge of the new iPhone

There has been quite a lot of speculation and rumour concerning the screen size of the next iPhone and whether or not the retina screen will be improved upon.

2 screen sizes keep getting suggested. However, it appears Apple is looking at better one handed use and less bezel. IAF has confirmed reports out of Cupertino that the smaller screen size is in fact 3.5 inches with near bezel less sides. By shrinking the screen and bezels, the retina screen is said to be even more magically retina whilst offering the best one handed experience.

This was an April Fools. IAF = It’s April Fools.
