Samsung Galaxy Note 3 thoughts

I can’t recall how long I’ve had the Note 3, but it must be getting on for 6 weeks.  And that is a record ownership duration for 2014.

So why am I enjoying the Note 3 experience so much?

1) Endless specifications – when I look at other phones they always have something missing versus the Note 3. Eg. 4K video,  wireless charging,  S-Pen editing,  multiview screens. NFC. Game controller support.  . USB Audio out. Wireless Printing.  Expandable memory. Replaceable battery.

2) Google Android works really well on a phone. Sharing of apps and data a joy.

3) Design – the phone is so well designed from hardware to software.  The size of the phone is not excessive despite a 5.7 inch screen. I even like the fake leather back.

4) Camera and audio quality.  Both are excellent.  In fact the camera is way better then I thought.  Listening to music is wonderful.

5) Full use of the screen with the multi view windows.  It’s not used every day but messaging between hangouts and whatsapp is easy when both apps are on the screen together.

6) Media consumption just looks and feels better and more engaging in a bigger screen.  Even photo editing is simpler.

7) Sometimes you think wouldn’t it be great if my phone did this.  The Note 3 doesn’t have that problem.

8) Proper Bluetooth profiles for sharing and more.  Game catalogue of Moga compatible titles is huge and I am playing some of the best games.

9) NFC – one touch on my QX10 or QX100 and it powers open the lens and opens the Sony app.

And finally battery. No longer do I have any worry about the next power source no matter how hard I use the phone.

All the gossip and confirmed specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5

image

Samsung Galaxy S5.nl leaked the above photo from the rear box of the S5.

The specs are huge. Included are a 5.25-inch Super AMOLED display with 2K resolution, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, a 20-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel rear camera, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a huge 3,000 mAh battery, an integrated infrared blaster and support for 4G LTE data speeds of up to 150Mbps.

And then there is the software.

The icons reveal a flatter touchwiz.  Also a big push with health integrated software.

Style.  The Korea Herald claims the S5 will have no bezel and the bottom part of the screen will act as the finger print scanner to unlock.

24th February can’t arrive soon enough to get all the confirmed specs.

Joby Ballhead and the Sony QX10 / QX100

image

The Sony QX10 and QX100 lenses are a unique piece of kit.

Both lenses received a welcome firmware update which added extra functionality.

When mounted on a tripod the hardest thing is to have a level lens.  Well a solution I use is by Joby. The Joby Ballhead attaches to your tripod and then the QX10 or QX100 attach to it.  The ball head is fully adjustable and tightens firmly.  You can also use it with a full size camera.

What’s special about this piece apart from the bullet proof build is it has a spirit level to ensure you have a level lens.  This provides a much easier and faster way to level the photo without adjusting the tripod legs.

Available from Joby

Check out the Menu

If you browse on a mobile device, you will see the menu button.

On a PC you will see all the menu options automatically.

But these won’t appear automatically on a mobile device. So if you are looking for something hit that magic menu button.
