Samsung Note 4 – officially launches in the UK – first quick impressions

So Samsung has officially launched the Note 4 and I was lucky enough to spend 15 mins with the phone.

First impressions. It feels small. Seriously it felt small in my hand. Just shows you how using the larger iPhone 6 Plus changes your perception on size. The phone was comfortable to hold and felt grippy enough unlike my 6 Plus which needs a case.

Finish. Whilst is has a nicer metal edge and generally better designed all over, I was not bowled over with thoughts of ooooooh and aaaaaah. Definitely the best finish I have seen on any Samsung phone. But what really stood out was the screen. Really vivid. In terms of operation everything seemed to flow rather well. Showing recent apps seemed to have a slight lag.

Overall my brief time with the Note 4 was positive but I am not sure its strong enough to sway me away from iOS this month.

  1. Gavin the Note 4 is even more about multi tasking productivity and use of the stylus. I don’t see the Note as an alternative to the other large screen devices as these are still content consumption centric.

  2. I honestly thought the a Note 4 would settle me for the time being but since considering the iPhone 6 Plus (which is now on order) I have been all over the place in what to test next.
What with iOS8 for both the phone and tablet and Yosemite on my iMac it’s looking more and more of an Apple camp…. Not sure how my Android devices are going to remain at the forefront for much longer.

    1. I have been using Airdroid for a while and may also start to use Samsung mobile sync, both of which provides continuity of activity from smartphone to laptop and tablet. Not as fully “fat” and “rich” as perhaps the Apple offering, but adequate.
