Google just started a price war on storage plans

Google has just heavily reduced its Google Drive storage plans to just $1.99 a month for 100gb of data storage. This limit works across all Google Products including your photos and gmail.

Apple’s iCloud storage costs seem very expensive in comparison. 50gb of data costs £70 a year. That’s not even 100gb. Apple really needs to amend its pricing structure before it loses everyone to Google.

  1. I have mentioned this outrageous price for Apple’s cloud storage before and the response from others is that everything Apple is expensive. But Apple’s cloud is not even special.

  2. i doubt very much Apple reducing their prices….. Lets face it, you never see them doing this with their hardware so again I just can not see it happening with their software.
The only time it would happen is if their actions looked bad in the public eye ~ like the in App Purchasing where they ended up refunding unhappy parents or more recently the US soldier whose iPhone took a piece of shrapnel. Initially Apple wanted the phone back but after publicity they changed their minds (it took 3 months) and let him keep the iPhone as a momento.

No, the one I am watching is Dropbox…..
Currently the owners of Dropbox charge customers for their ‘Professional’ or ‘Business’ accounts.
The cheapest upgrade is their ‘Pro’ accounts. These currently start at 100GB and cost either $9.99 per month or $99 per year, a saving of 17%. So for a UK subscriber under current Currency Conversions that works out at £6.01 per month or £60 per year, hardly cheap in comparison….
Trouble is Dropbox have quite a bit going for them; from tighter integration and heavily supported by other Apps to hardware having direct photo uploads.
Try and do any of this with Google Drive and its a non starter from the beginning.
The only other cloud storage I know of that supports photo uploads is ‘Mega’ and that is still free at 50GB.
Well worth looking into if your 2 year free 50GB Dropbox account is about to expire soon.
