Does Samsung ever learn – Galaxy S5 16gb memory

image

Above is a screen shot from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3.  It comes with 32gb as standard ie. there is no 16gb version. Based on my memory used I could swap to a 16gb S5 and install the same apps.  I would run out of memory.

So why is Samsung offering its new Galaxy S5 in 16gb. Reports from MWC report as much as 7-8gb memory has been used by the operating system.

Now Samsung did mention a 32gb version would be available but only if the networks and major distributors import it into the UK. Based on previous years this seems unlikely.

Really its a bit disappointing that in 2014 we are still being cheated in this manner.

  1. Even if you had a very basic Kit Kat like in the Moto G 16GB, you would still have enough space for your apps and data. So you really need a 32GB device. Who knows, Samsung may price the S5 lower than the current S4. And why would you move from the Note 3 to a S5 unless it was for the camera and many of the S5 features will migrate to the Note 3. Also as we know, after 3/6 months after launch the 32GB version of the S5 will be a lot cheaper.

  2. Well, I for one will not be purchasing an S5. It will be the first from the Galaxy range that I will not be getting.
Many factors have changed my general attitude ~ from lack of storage (nothing learned here), plastic everywhere (the Sony Z1 opened my eyes to how a phone should be made), a company that thinks it is Apple (note to self…… Don’t go there Mike) but the killer that drove me away was the ‘gimmicks’ (I’ll name but one as I don’t want to labelled as totally negative ~ Heart Rate Monitor).

Yes the Sony had it’s problems at release and yes again it is so slowww in updating the OS but slowly all the issues have not only been ironed out but generally improved upon.
Samsung touts it’s S5 has a new camera control with ‘Depth of Field’ shooting similar to what you get with a DSLR.
Sony already have this in the form of the camera add-on ‘Background Defocus’ which works for me simple and effective.
Not only that, there are the general way it now integrates apps directly within the main camera (Camscanner, FxGuru & Evernote to name but three).

Where once I were an avid fan of Samsung I now have very different views and not just in the phones themselves……

    1. I really like my Z1 and Z ultra but the screen on my Note 3 seems better than the Z1 (but not Z Ultra for some reason?). I know I need to look into the camera aspects more before my next family holiday 🙂

  3. It’s something that wouldn’t bother me at all.

With my 8gb Moto G, there is 5.5gb available, and I still have 3.5gb free after installing all my apps – similar on my Xperia SP (although it has a microSD slot which I never use.)

I don’t see the point in storing files locally when everything is online, I stream all my music, don’t play games or movies on a phone.
