Xiaomi Mi 4i, Mi Note Pro, Mi Band and Mi Headphones – Updated

I am currently testing 4 products from Xiaomi.

I have only had these for about 2 weeks or less and what I have noticed is something over manufacturers like Samsung and LG seem to omit – regular software updates.

3 devices have received updates. The Mi 4i has had 2 over the air firmware updates. The Mi Note Pro is receiving and updating as I type this. The Mi Band had an update yesterday. Obviously the Mi Headphones don’t receive firmware updates.

Xiaomi also seems very active in their forums as are the fans.

All 4 devices will be reviewed over the coming weeks with small post updates before the main review.

Xiaomi just hit 1 Billion App Store downloads

And they secured former Android icon Hugo Barra from Google. Xiaomi announced that they have reached 1 billion downloads from their MIUI app store in one year. Xiaomi’s UI is based on Android firmware.

Since the company launched its MIUI app store, it has gained over 17 million active users with over 1.3 million daily searches. Add 5 million daily downloads and its certainly one to watch.

Is this China’s answer to the iPhone?

Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi, has launched two new smartphones – the Xiaomi Mi-S2 and the Xiaomi Mi-2A.

The company, which is rapidly gaining a reputation for being the Apple of the East, is hoping that the new phones will cause frenzy amongst technology enthusiasts.

The key specs of the phones are –
Mi-2S
4.3-inch IPS display with a 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution
Quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU
2 GB of RAM, 16 or 32gb memory
8MP camera rear camera
2MP camera front camera
2,000 mAh battery
Jelly Bean-based MIUI

Mi-2A
4.5 inch display
Dual-core 1.7 GHz S4 Pro CPU
1 GB of RAM, 16 gb memory
8MP camera rear camera
2MP camera front camera
2,000 mAh battery

At least these phones are not trying to mimic the huge screen sizes we are seeing being released every day. For me there is nothing special about these other than the low cost.
