Google Reader shutdown is less than a month away- here are some options

In less than a month, Google Reader will shut down. However, Feedly has stepped in to offer an alternative.

Feedly has announced partnerships with several RSS app developers including Reeder, Press, Nextgen Reader, Newsify and gReader, who will move to support the Feedly API before the Google Reader API is deprecated. What that means for end users relying on these apps is that the app makers will be able to seamlessly transition their users to a new backend ahead of Google Reader’s impending shutdown.

This is good news. I personally use Newsify so it is good to hear RSS syncing will carry on regardless of Google closing down its Reader service.

Google Reader is closing due to lack of use – really?

So Google Reader is being closed down due to lack of use. That’s odd.

Feedly, the RSS feed-reading client has launched new versions of its Feedly Mobile client for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android phones and tablets. This update, built in response to user feedback, is focused on improving search, productivity, discovery, and sharing. But the feature which is likely to appeal to ex-Google Reader users the most is the new “title only” mode, designed to make headline scanning more efficient.

Why have Feedly launched the apps. Well since Google made the announcement to close its Reader service, Feedly has now got 3 million new users.
