Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Edge – official camera specification from Samsung

If you have been wanting to know more about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Edge camera specifications, here goes.

The front is a 3.7mp wide f/1.9.

The rear is 16mp f/2.4 with OIS. The f stop has been revealed by Samsung. This is a higher f stop than many people had expected, but this is the same value as the LG G3.

iPhone 6 – 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch – will the 5.5 inch be more popular?

If rumours all pan out, Apple will announce this Tuesday the new iPhone in 2 screen sizes, a 4.7 and 5.5 inch.

But will people really rush out and buy the larger 5.5 inch version? Or will the 4.7 inch which will still offer one handed use be the most popular version?

My prediction is there will be an initial rush on the larger 5.5 inch version, but over a course of a year it will be the 4.7 inch model that rules. Why? Well, my thoughts are as follows.

I have owned the Note, Note 2 and Note 3. I currently have the LG G3. All these are around the same screen size as the new larger iPhone. In fact the iPhone is very close in size to a Note 3, which is a two handed device. Assuming both new iPhones have increased screen resolutions and are identical, then not only will the 4.7 inch screened iPhone look better it will be of an acceptable size increase over the iPhone 5S for media and still an acceptable size for one handed use.

And at the end of the day the iPhone 5S had no issues selling itself with a 4 inch screen, so logic dictates whilst 5 inch plus screened phones are rising in popularity, people prefer ease of use using just one hand.

So what are your thoughts on this?

Gav & Dave’s Tech Podcast

The next episode of Gav & Dave’s Tech podcast would have been due out today.

However, due to Apple’s Keynote speech in a few days time on Tuesday, Dave and I have decided to postpone the podcast for just a week.

This means we will have all the latest gossip on all the new hotness that has been announced in the last few weeks as well. And there is a lot of new stuff to cover.

See you all in a week’s time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Note Edge? – Decisions

I really adore my LG G3. It has so many positives and many features the Note 4 does not contain. BUT, and there is always a but, I cannot get away from my memories of the Note 3 and the stylus. It just makes for a unique experience.

The weaknesses of the Note 3 have been addressed with the Note 4. Improved camera and better S-Pen integration. And a few areas have been tweaked all around.

And here is the problem. The Note 4 with its metal edge looks fantastic and professional. The Edge looks like plastic fantastic but the Edge is just so quirky. Quirky to the point that I really would love to own one. But I keep thinking the Note 4 standard will be far easier to hold and use in real life.

I just cannot decide. And then there is the Gear S. It is huge and something out of Star Trek. The Edge with the Gear S would be one almighty combo 😀

My Views on Moto G, Moto X and Moto 360

So early morning Motorola went public with the updated Moto G and X and also announced the Moto 360 watch.

I will cover off my thoughts first on Motorola. The Moto G is a well priced, competent android phone. Stereo speakers, better camera than last year all in a larger screen. So the overall profile is larger. In fact the display PPI has dropped due to the larger sized screen. It is a shame it has got bigger and I personally thought the first version was the perfect size for most people.

The Moto X. A customisable delight. Much better camera, infra red sensors to detect motion which in turn activates the screen and or off and more. I like the optional leather backs but £410. Seems like it should start with £300 ish.

Moto 360. This watch has lived up to its expectations. Except its battery life is shocking. Max of 24 hours. That maximum of 24 hours. Typical is less. So for me this watch is dead in the water.

Overall, everything announced was reasonable. Nothing set my world alight. What did you think?

Apple – It is your turn to strike!

Samsung, Sony, HTC, Huawei and many others have all laid their wares out for all to see.

Now in a few days time, it is down to Apple to steal everyones thunder with new iPhones, maybe iPads and a wearable or two.

Predictably, it will either be a stampede of hardware/software ecstasy or in reality it will just be small iterations over previous hardware.

Personally, I am not expecting miracles!
