Are these the specs of the new Nexus 7 tablet

It looks like KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed everything about the Nexus 7, as shown below.

The specifications look reasonable although it appears not to feature the latest Snapdragon 600 processor, and the battery capacity has dropped down from 4,300 to 4,000maH.

Only a few days to see if this is the real deal. What are you views on this?

Reasons to buy Android over iOS

Google has a rather decent array of apps and on its own operating system they are generally superior to those on other platforms, sometimes as simple as on an android device they can be set as default apps, something Apple doesn’t allow.

Apart from Google Mail, Maps and Navigation all offer a superior feel, and are very polished too. These apps provide a service as well as an experience. And sometimes the service is more important that the app itself.

With Google I/O upon us, what other surprises will be pulled out of the hat? And will Google finally introduces enough new services to level the playing field with Apple. Could be interesting!

But bear in mind, next month it’s Apple’s turn to fight back with it’s own developer conference.

iPod Classic 160gb vs HTC One

The iPod Classic 160gb is still sold by Apple, and is currently a top device if you want to carry all you music around with you. But with mobile phones including Apple’s own iPhone fighting back, it probably won’t be long before the iPod Classic finally hit the dust.

iPod’s are all about the music, the quality and the sound. So how will it pitch up against the HTC One that also features sound as its strength either via its boom sound speakers or via the headphone jack using Beats technology.

I started on Saturday with a wide variety of headphones, some so big you simply wouldn’t normally use them with any portable player, and others of more modest sizes, right down to in ear canals. I had borrowed a number of headphones off a few friends to help with this test. Brands included Audio Technica, Sennheiser, JVC, Sony, Beats, Beyer and Denon.

First up the loudspeaker test. The HTC One wins this hands down as the iPod Classic doesn’t have any built in speaker or speakers.

Next using the headphone jack. The iPod Classic did very well with most of the in ear canals producing a lovely detailed sound across a all genres. But the HTC One also competed really well, and then destroyed the iPod Classic with all the over the ear hard to drive headphones.

In fact the HTC One built in DAC and headphone amp is so good, that I would use the phone as a standalone MP3 player. The only saving grace for the iPod Classic is its memory of 160gb. The HTC One has 25mb available plus you can connect a USB hard drive or memory card if you need.

The Bank Robber of the Future has arrived – major Cyber Theft across 27 countries

Reuters reported that in one of the biggest ever bank heists, a global cyber crime ring stole $45 million from two Middle Eastern banks by hacking into credit card processing firms and withdrawing money from ATMs in 27 countries, U.S. prosecutors said on Thursday.

The U.S. Justice Department accused eight men of allegedly forming the New York-based cell of the organization, and said seven of them have been arrested. The eighth, allegedly a leader of the cell, was reported to have been murdered in the Dominican Republic on April 27.

The ringleaders are believed to be outside the United States but prosecutors declined to give details, citing the ongoing investigation. What’s clear is the sheer scope and speed of the crimes: in one of the attacks, in just over 10 hours, $40 million was raided from ATMs in 24 countries involving 36,000 transactions.

“In the place of guns and masks, this cyber crime organization used laptops and the Internet,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Loretta Lynch said at a news conference. “Moving as swiftly as data over the Internet, the organization worked its way from the computer systems of international corporations to the streets of New York City.”

The case demonstrates the major threat that cyber crime poses to banks around the world. It also shows how increasingly international and sophisticated criminal gangs have become, particularly those using the Internet.

Prosecutors highlighted the “surgical precision” of these hackers, the global nature of their organization, and the speed and coordination with which they executed operations in 27 countries.

As technology applications increase, we will actually face more of a lockdown than the Internet freedom we started off with? Hacking, cyber theft are becoming too common nowadays. Maybe we shouldn’t have anything online, not subscribe to any forums, delete our social networks and just use a dumb phone. Sadly, that wouldn’t help. We all have bank accounts. Banks store are personal data, and that will get stolen by hackers at some point.

Maybe the ultimate solution is cash under the bed and a dumb phone? What do you think?
