Introducing the Samsung Galaxy S4

Sammobile have leaked shots of the new S4.

The rumoured specs are –

– Exynos 5450 Quad-Core CPU clocked at 2.0GHz
– Mali-T658 GPU
– 2GB of RAM
– 4.99” SuperAMOLED FULL HD resolution (1080×1920) Display
– 13 Megapixel Rear Facing Camera
– 2 Megapixel Front Facing Camera
– Android 4.2.1 (Out of the box)
– Possible S-Pen

The S4 is the device Samsung believes will crush the new iPhone. It certainly doesn’t seem dramatically different than the S3, other than a spec bump on processor, ram, camera and possibly S-Pen. If the home button has gone this is a very good move. I never liked the S3 home button. Also, I just wonder how many people will want such a large object in their pocket or bag. It does seem though that 5 inch or higher devices are all the fashion. For me, the killer aspect of the S4 needs to be the manufactured material. Samsung needs to use aluminium or something sexy looking. Otherwise it’s just another plastic device that’s the same as every other plastic made phone

Of course, the leak could be a fake but we can only hope.

Samsung Galaxy Phones Crushing UK Xmas Sales

uswitch has completed research on the Xmas phone sales in the UK, and the result is proving very strong for Samsung. It features 6 phones in the top 10.

Actually Samsung take the top 3 slots, then the Nexus 4 and finally the iPhone 4S and 5 feature in 5th and 6th place.

Assuming uswitch’s data is accurate, it is not really surprising seeing the dominance of Samsung and the Nexus 4. Why? Price. They are available considerably cheaper than the iPhone 5. Important as the UK is in recession so people wallets are not as full at the moment. Also as a standalone offering the Samsung S3 and S2 are marvellous pieces of kit.

If the trend continues, Apple might feel the need to reduce their pricing.

Archos TV Connect – This is Awesome

Archos have just announced the TV Connect.

It future proofs your existing HDTV with this simple over-the-top box, with its a multi-gesture TV Touch remote with game control mapping providing a full multi-touch Android for TV experience. So suddenly you have Google Play store on your TV, video calling, Internet, Apps and Games with a game mapping tool, gesture controls, light wand control, as well as full keyboard for text entry.

The device has 8gb memory, a micro SD slot, HD camera, micro and normal USB slots, wifi, Ethernet, led notifications, mini hdmi , microphone and front camera. Archos have really nailed this one, and made the Apple TV box seem archaic.

I can’t wait to give this gadget a good road test. What do you guys think?

Nexus 4 Sales Estimates – Disappointing ?

Google released the Nexus 4 smartphone at crazy low prices in either 8gb or 16gb varieties. As soon as the page went live it was out of stock.

This meant either stock levels were restrictive or it’s just sold millions and despite lacking an lte radio. Well some clever person at xda developers has worked out the actual numbers.

It is estimated that Google sold 375,000 Nexus 4 handsets. So is that number disappointing? I think so but considering how dreadful Google’s sales, logistics and customer service is, it’s not surprising these numbers are poor. Google need to take a leaf out of Apple’s book.

Personally after receiving shoddy Nexus 7 tablets and the worst after customer service, I would ever buy hardware direct from Google.

Google is Coming to a Car Near You Soon – No More Microsoft

We all know Google Maps is one of the best free solutions available. Google in partnership with Kia, is bringing Maps in to the console of new Kias.

What’s even more interesting, is that Microsoft will no longer be powering the hardware. This move seems inevitable and I know Apple is also working on tighter vehicle integration with its devices.

I just wonder if there are any new issues with privacy, whereby Google know more about your movements and driving habits, and also whether the manufacturer declines a warranty repair, based on feedback from Google.

What do you think about having Google Maps in your car? Would you buy a Kia over another brand just to get Maps?

How Many Apps & Games Do You Own – Logic Analysis

Time to own up. Are you a person who buys an app, uses it fully and until such time will only purchase another app if it does something different?

Are you a person who buys a game, plays it to the end and then might consider buying another app?

Or are you the sort of person, who sees a few games promoted or reduced and buys several at a time?

I would imagine many of you fall in to the category above. I know many people who have over 500 apps/games. If you ask yourself seriously, do you ever use all those apps, do you really play all those games. Answer is no.

So, here’s a challenge. Look at all your apps and games and only keep on your device the top 20. See if you can survive a day, then a week and then a month.

Let me know how you got on below in the comments.
