O2 has launched new VoIP service
O2 has today launched a new VoIP and messaging service called TU Go, available to pay monthly customers with Android and iOS devices. The service allows users to make calls and send texts over the Internet, using Wi-Fi hotspots as well.
TU Go is similar to Skype’s paid calling service, except it is exclusive to O2 customers and doesn’t require a separate account. All calls made through TU Go are charged to the your bill at the standard call rate; they’ll come out of your minutes just like standard calls and texts and appear as if they’re coming from your mobile number.
You can use it on your iPad, an Android tablet, and even your Windows 7 computer, and it works in exactly the same way providing you have your O2 number to activate the service.
The only limit to TU Go is that you cannot be logged into more than five devices at any one time.
Did you know that all iDevices
A small titbit of information.
If you have one of the Apple approved DACs, then using a USB-A socket, any of the new lightning connector made Apple devices can be used as a digital transport.
That means the iDevice sends the audio digital out via USB allowing you to connect it to a standalone Digital to Analogue Converter and then amp for much better higher quality music reproduction.
One major benefit of the lightning connector that wasn’t so obvious in the beginning.
LG releases worlds smallest wireless charger WCP-300
LG has decided to release the worlds smallest wireless charger. Obviously designed to work with its new phones but also LG have added that it will work with other phones.
Whilst wireless charging looks trendy you still have to plug the wireless charger into the wall and then do you leave the charger permanently switched on. Will the wireless charger work through a case. You see where I am coming from.
Is this technology we really need.
Sound & Vision – Part 5
So here we are at the final part of my write up of the Sound & Vision Show at Bristol. As I wrote on Monday, there was one setup that topped them all by Wilson Benesch. Before you see the front here the view of the cabling.
The cost of the connectors and cable top £50,000.
And here is the full frontal, using a record player as the source. The total cost of this gear was well over £250,000. If you could afford it you would also need a big enough room to house it all.
Even if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t buy it, would you?
LG sales performance flattens
A new report out of China claims that LG Display saw shipments of its 9.7-inch iPad display panels drop 90% in January, from 6 million units in December all the way down to 600,000. The drop-off is said to be a main factor in LG’s poor performance in the month.
According to supply chain sources, the downturn was caused by a combination of a few things including the fact that January was the first post-holiday month, the growing popularity of the iPad mini, and a general shift in the market to lower-priced tablet.
However, iPad Mini panels grew tremendously over the month.
Pheed – more popular than Facebook & Twitter
Pheed is the new social network that is taking the App Store charts by storm. So what makes this different. You take control, you take ownership of your information and more.
The catchphrase for Pheed, which launched in October 2012, is, “A new way to express yourself.” This can be done via text, photos, videos, audio, voice or live broadcast, Pheed offers all of that functionality. Other social networks offer some of that, but not all of it.
One of the most interesting things about Pheed is you can put your content behind a paywall and charge $1.99 to $34.99 per view, or $1.99 to $34.99 per month, and split the proceeds with Pheed. You can also put a watermark on your content and always have ownership of it.
Looks like it could be worth a peek. Do you believe there is room for another social network?

Block the ads on free apps on games
If you have an android or apple device, you might have installed an app or game that is supported by ads. These can be intrusive and over the top but there are easy ways to curb them.
On android App Store or the jail break App Store you can get apps that help remove the ads. But there is a simple method. Turn data off, or if you can’t do that, put your phone in airplane mode. No Internet and the ads can’t be fetched. You might get empty boxes when you use the apps but at least there is no ads.
