iPhone 6 pre order frenzy

Yesterday it was pre order time for the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Apple’s pre ordering system didn’t go live at the time everyone expected. Consequently twitter was on fire with comments with people airing their frustration. Call me suspicious but maybe Apple deliberately delayed the start to create a media storm.

About 12 hours after kick off, Apple have declared it the best ever launch in terms of sales. And no surprises the delivery dates have slipped to 3-4 weeks. A similar pattern to last year and the year before. And comments of limited stock too.

With extended delivery dates, this will have a knock on effect of huge queues on Friday, once again creating even more free newsprint for Apple.

This will obviously be followed by a statement of a record breaking number of iPhones sold over the launch weekend.

Clearly, Apple have a fantastic system that creates media buzz with all the right triggers to increase the launch frenzy.

Whether you agree or not with Apple’s strategy it is a masterpiece in marketing and sales.

      1. No when I checked yesterday evening some colours and memory options for the 6+ were available. Can’t comment on their Web site accuracy 🙂 But the point is that the iPhone did not sell out within hours in the UK.

      2. Most people went via the Apple store.

I remember when the 5 came out. The queues were extreme in the Uk. The O2 stores too. I walked up to my local Vodafone at 7.55am on day of launch and walked out at 8.05am with a new iPhone. Phones4U was next door and had stock of the 5 and could sell it on O2. I told people queuing in the O2 lines , but not one person left the queue to get one from phones4u. The O2 queue would have been 4 hours long. You just have to be smart on how you buy one. Also a lot of it is marketing buzz to create a buzz to get more people to panic buy. I’ve held off for now. I will check them out next weekend. For me I want to wait till the Note 4 arrives and then compare that to the iPhone 6 plus. By then all the reviews and users views should be out on the new iPhone. ATM the lg g3 is superb.

      1. The prices are high on contract. A 16gb iPhone 6 is £51 a month at EE with £30 upfront. Which is about £1225!
