If rumours all pan out, Apple will announce this Tuesday the new iPhone in 2 screen sizes, a 4.7 and 5.5 inch.
But will people really rush out and buy the larger 5.5 inch version? Or will the 4.7 inch which will still offer one handed use be the most popular version?
My prediction is there will be an initial rush on the larger 5.5 inch version, but over a course of a year it will be the 4.7 inch model that rules. Why? Well, my thoughts are as follows.
I have owned the Note, Note 2 and Note 3. I currently have the LG G3. All these are around the same screen size as the new larger iPhone. In fact the iPhone is very close in size to a Note 3, which is a two handed device. Assuming both new iPhones have increased screen resolutions and are identical, then not only will the 4.7 inch screened iPhone look better it will be of an acceptable size increase over the iPhone 5S for media and still an acceptable size for one handed use.
And at the end of the day the iPhone 5S had no issues selling itself with a 4 inch screen, so logic dictates whilst 5 inch plus screened phones are rising in popularity, people prefer ease of use using just one hand.
So what are your thoughts on this?
Yes, I agree the larger 5.5 iPhone will initially get more attention but that is more than likely down to the fact Apple users have seen what Android have been doing with their larger sized phones and are naturally inquisitive.
There’s also a certain amount of Android users who may have thought of trying iOS but were put off with the low screen size.
So, yes I do believe on initial launch it will be the larger iPhone that will get the lions share of sales.
As to the issue of one-handed, I’m sure Apple will have thought of a plan to get round this. Regardless, it’s a use that has never been of a concern to me. I’m happy to trade off one-handed use for the privilage in having a much bigger screen estate.

Large screen iPhone will replace kindle ebook readers and therefore will appeal initially to a particular demographic. But the 5.5 inch version will be very expensive so I think the 4.7 inch will be popular all the way through the year and I also think the smaller one will be launched first.
