Apple promoted Mavericks as free and available for Macs as old as 2007. What Apple did not tell you was one feature you might have relied on has been removed.

Previously you could sync your iPhone or iPad with your macs contacts and calendar via iTunes. Have a look now, that option is completely gone. Everything now has to be synced via the Cloud.
