New Devices

So yesterday HTC announced the One. Sony are releasing the Xperia Z. Samsung have the S3 and soon the S4 and the Note 2.

Each one of the devices has novel hardware or software. The HTC One is a mind blowing device from the aluminium sexy look, decent stereo speakers, power button that acts as an infra red remote and customised software. The Xperia Z is dust and water resistant and comes packing loads of tweaks from Sony. And then Samsung with the Note 2 and the novel large screen and S Pen software and stylus. The S3 is equally as impressive.

And then you have the iPhone 5. It feels somewhat dull in comparison. There isn’t any hardware feature that’s leader of the pack. iOS is very good with Siri and iMessage and other great software. But now for the very first time I do wonder if Apple can offer something to wow the audience and take them by surprise. Incremental updates don’t wash it anymore. Apps cannot be the excuse either. It time to blow the gates open and give us a dynamic piece of kit.

Just for the record though, the iPhone 5 does work really well. It just doesn’t feel bleeding edge.
