Samsung Galaxy S7 vs LG G5 – quick camera comparison

Take 2 of the top flagships the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 and take the same shot from each phone. This is the difference as shown below.

The macro shots from both phones are fairly close in quality. Some aspects go to the S7 and other aspects of this macro go to the G5. Overall the colour accuracy to what I could see goes to the LG G5. But overall this is a draw.

This is where the S7 lack of pixels really shows itself up. It just cannot match the LG G5. And then there is the LG G5 wide shot which is simply ultra amazing and cool.

Again I just used the wide shot from the G5 as it just makes scenic shots like this look much more interesting.

However, if you have kids or dogs, this is the killer type of shot shown below you can get from the S7 with ease. The G5 has a slower focus so will not achieve the below shots as easily.

The shot of Tiggy below using a S7 was snapped whilst Tiggy was actually moving..

The shot below using the G5, Tiggy was still for a split second. The photo is good.

Tiggy all soaked and muddy but very happy #lgg5

Now I said this type of shot is a win for the S7. If you click on the shot of Tiggy and view full size you will see how sharp and how much detail is available on the S7. The G5 isn’t too shabby, but I really do think the S7 takes this one.

Overall, two different phones, with two different cameras. A hard choice to make!

  1. Must admit, despite being an S7 Edge owner, I do really like (and prefer) the G5 photos – lighter and more natural/real looking to my eyes helped by the additional detail no doubt.

Having said that – think I’m moving back to iOS so Android shootouts might have to ignored for the sake of my wallet in the future πŸ™‚

      1. Probably a 6s+ Gavin – although I may stick it out until the next model and stick with Android a few months more πŸ™‚

    1. I agree. G5 photos have better colors in my opinion, but the S7E is rocking that sweet build and long battery life…. And honestly, much better build quality…

  2. Am wondering whether an easier way to show the difference with detail is to look at 2x zoom ? You shoot in 4:3. So it’s 8MP vs. 6MP. Anyone using 16:9 will be down to 4mp and at a disadvantage. Thing is lot of people want 16:9.

Oh why did Sammy have to go to 12mp. It’s like they’re pulling a m7/8 here. 12mp is just that bit faster to capture and save and be ready for more than 16MP.

The one of Tiggy isn’t a like for like.

With the s7 she’s moving and closer. A tap to zoom and she is very clear.

The g5 had it easier since she was stationary. Still managed to get her sharp.

    1. I don’t like adjusting the full size images. So it the camera is 4:3 or 16:9 I will just use the top resolution. In my book its fairer as I want to see and show others what the best photo looks like. I understand where you are coming from. Tiggy isn’t like for like agreed. Not the easiest shot to get as she moves like a bullet πŸ™‚ But just wanted something as a comparison.

      1. About Tiggy sure,so if you could catch her before she bounded off then that’s an argument itself for AF on the G5. And ultimately that is the key.

How fast are you at anticipating a shot ?

If you have that 6th sense then any camera or let’s say those that don’t take too long to focus will suffice.

      1. Gavin, the V10 has a built in hifi DAC. It would interesting to know if there are differences between that and the G5 hifi module.

      2. I’ve ordered the HiFi module, but go to say the standard playback and headamp on the G5 are very good. Also ordered the gel cover you mentioned at XDA Developers to fit the G5 with attached B&O unit.,
